Kilkenny has a large, active and fun junior section with boys and girls teams ranging from 4-16 years of age.  A child must be 4 years old on September 1st of the season.  Otherwise he or she will have to wait until next season.

All sections are played with mixed ability until 6th class and Kilkenny Hockey promotes inclusion and enjoyment in all sessions. Our aim is to actively support youth health and wellbeing though sports development….and fun!

We boast a strong coaching ethos supported by a dedicated and co-ordinated team. We compete annually in various fun tournaments as well as some teams competing in Leinster League and Cup competitions.

Training

All training and matches are at Kilkenny College on the Castlecomer Rd.

Boys from 1st class and older train on Friday nights from 7pm to 8pm.

Our intermediate girls, that is girls in 3rd and 4th year, train on Wednesday nights from 7pm to 8:30pm.

1st year girls and 2nd year girls train on Saturday mornings from 9:30am to 10:30am in seperate pods.

Primary school girls and infants train on Sundays.

Infants and girls from 1st class to 3rd class train from 10:15am to 11:15am.

4th class girls to 6th class girls train from 11:30am to 12:30am.

Membership

Hockey has become very popular.  Consquently we have more people wanting to play than we can manage.  Our main constrain is lack of coaches.  The more parents that can help, the easier it is for us to look at taking on more children.  We aim to have 30 children in each class group for our junior gilrs.  Thus, we may have a space emerge at one age group while others are full. 

Each year, we will invite the previous year's members to rejoin.  Other applicants will be added to our waiting list.  If we have spaces in any class group, we will look to the waiting list to find a match, giving preference to any siblings of existing members there.

Happily, we have spaces in our junior boys and senior teams. Contact us through the Clubzap app if you would like to be added to our waiting list. When spaces up, we will be in touch and will advise on how to register.

We use Clubzap for team communication and contact tracing. Once you have joined a team, you will then be added to a team chat and invited to training/matches.

Fees

Membership fees for our junior players for the season from September 2022 are as follows;

Boys €100;       Intermediate Girls €120;    Junior Girls from 2nd year down €100;     Infants €60.

Fees are due at the start of the season and may be paid through the Clubzap app.  Fees can be paid in two instalments; first at the start of the season and the second on 1st January 2023.

For those who play in formal leagues, you will be required to register the player with Hockey Ireland, which has a modest fee attached.  You will be advised of this at the appropriate time.
